Pasado Simple
Pasado Simple construcción: infinitivo + el sufijo ‘ed’ (no incluye los verbos irregulares).
Verbo ejemplar: end
Se usa para hablar sobre una acción terminada en el pasado
- I went to my grandma’s house.
- She saw me on Tuesday. (‘saw’ is also an irregular past form of ‘see’).
- They translated my documents.
- Did you finish the task?
- I turned the light on.
- I cleaned the house.
Usamos el Pasado Simple para hablar sobre una serie de acciones en el pasado, es decir, si ocurrió más de una cosa y se quiere expresar las acciones en la misma frase
Generalmente omitimos el sujeto después de la primera forma.
- Daniel and I washed the car, cleanedour underwear, and hung them up as well.
- My boss emailed me yesterday and asked me to come early. (Podemos omitir el sujeto del segundo verbo para evitar ser repetitivos). Entonces: “My boss emailed me yesterday and ‘he’ asked me to come early” — suena repetitivo.
Usamos el Pasado Simple para hablar de costumbres o hábitos que teníamos en el pasado y acabaron
El significado de ‘used to’ es exactamente el mismo.
- I did a lot of work for a lot of people in my younger days.
- James played an instrument when he was fourteen.
- When I was twenty, I called my mum every day. Now, not so much.
- He sheared sheep by the hundreds.
- She drove too fast when she was a young adult.
Utilizamos el Pasado Simple para expresar duración en el pasado
Siempre y cuando la acción empezó y acabó en un tiempo específico se usa el Pasado Simple. Normalmente, se usan expresiones de tiempo como:for two minutes, all month, the whole day, x amount of time…
- I waited for my parents for one whole hour, and I wasn’t happy about it.
- My three sisters screamed at me all day today.
- She and I discussed our problems all afternoon. We had so much fun.
- I taught her Chinese for three years.
Se emplea el Pasado Simple para hablar sobre hechos y generalizaciones en el pasado que podrían ser verdaderos en el presente
- When I was younger, we had to work more and certainly complained less.
- He loved being the only redhead in his class.
- They often hit on the ladies (hit = flirtear).
- Did Arial play American football when he was at college?
Pueden usarse adverbios con el Pasado Simple
Adverbios como: just, only, always, never, sometime, still, ever…
- I just finished my exams.
- James never sentme a card or anything.
- Did you ever do any chores, Sam? Yes, I sometimes did them.
